We have 2 digital subscription product lines that drop content into a personal portal each month.

Design a purchase workflow that makes it simple to sign up for a variety of subscription lengths.

Online market research and beta product user surveys helped us understand the type of subscriptions and subscription lengths customers were interested in.

Kids’ subscription products, such as Kiwi Co., offer one-off and 3 month increment subscriptions for their physical product kits. 

Customer research

Customer surveys had an overwhelming preference for the ability to try a single kit without the commitment of a subscription you can cancel any time. 

3. Define

Based on what was learned, we defined the opportunity to create value as follows:

Why?

To offer potential customers a safe and confident buying experience.

WhAT?

A simple to navigate purchasing flow with flexible subscription options.

How?

Using clear microcopy, easy to toggle options, and a smooth payment API integration. 

4. Plan

In order to work quickly we broke down the product plan into an agile scrum framework with MVP iterations throughout.

Kit Access UX/UI

Purchasing Wyz Kits needed to be integrated into the customer portal, LMS, and timed email delivery.  Below are the varying sketches and prototypes for how the process would function:

Email: Delivering (an easy to navigate) Adventure 

Monthly subscription kits require monthly emails to unveil the latest “destination” for coding projects.  Personalized messages, short descriptions, and clear instructions make it easy for parents/guardians and kids to start creating.

6. Test

In anticipation of the beta version of our first Wyz Kit & Wyz Create platform, we recruited Outschool parents to be user testers.  A free Wyz Kit plus a discount code for a future subscription of Wyz Create was promised to families who agreed to participate.  Five families agreed to try the product and provide feedback via a survey, and 2 of those 5 agreed to a video call interview following their first use of the product.

7. Reflect

Highlights:

1. Syncing the purchase flow into a seamless product delivery experience was a great win.

2. The positive response for the ease of use from our testers was a bullseye for our product goal

 

Opportunities:

1. Make gifting a kit a more explicit option, allowing for a special message and delayed delivery. We launchd during the holidays which made that a real possibility.
